Alex Engel is a veteran commercial and music video director with a diverse cultural background that deeply influences his work. Born in Mexico City to an American father and European mother, Engel’s upbringing instilled in him a profound appreciation for diversity and a global perspective.

After moving to New York at the age of 9, Engel completed his education there, eventually earning a Bachelor’s degree in TV Radio production and international relations from the State University of New York. Seeking to broaden his cinematic skills, he spent a transformative year in Melbourne, Australia, studying at the Victorian University Film program.

Returning to New York in 2002, Engel joined Headquarters Films, where he gained valuable experience working alongside established directors on projects for brands like Lexus, Visa, Canon, McDonald’s, AT&T, GE, American Express, and Ford, collaborating with agencies such as BBDO, Saatchi & Saatchi, BBD, TBWA\Chiat\Day, Berlin Cameron United, and Publicis Worldwide.

Within three years, Engel directed his first commercial for Merrell footwear through Publicis Worldwide, marking the beginning of his directing career. Since then, he has worked on national and viral campaigns, promos, documentaries, and music videos for various international and New York-based artists.

Engel’s client list includes Merrell footwear, Siemens (Seigle Strategies), USGA (BBDO), General Mills (Saatchi & Saatchi), Cotton, Sotheby’s, Sears (Fluid), BET, The NHL, NBA, HBO, HBO Sports (FilmDistrict), HVS through the insight capitalists, Grey Goose, Coppertone, and various international hotel chains, as well as pharmaceutical and healthcare facilities.

Now based in Mexico, Engel continues to pursue his directing career while also exploring visual arts in plastics and photography. His work reflects his commitment to storytelling and his passion for capturing diverse perspectives in his projects.
